I read a great closing page in Entrepreneur Magazine’s December 2009 issue and felt obliged to share. It was titled Ringing in the Revenue by Jason Daley. Some fun facts that are called out:
- 99% - Jump in web visits to Weight Watchers in January
- 12% - Percentage of gym memberships sold in January (the most of any month)
- 1 million – Boxes of smoking cessation gum, lozenges and patches sold in January 2008
- 1 in 10 – Number of New Year’s resolvers who actually quit smoking
- 42% - Jump in traffic on career sites in January
- First Monday after New Year’s – Busiest day of the year for both divorce lawyers and travel agents
The way I see it, there is a huge opportunity to utilize local marketing ideas to capture the minds, and hopefully greenbacks, of 50% of all people in your community who are statistically proven to make a resolution. Are you utilizing local marketing and meda to reach these potential customers? Do keep in mind that time is running out, as statistics also say that 25% of those people fail after the first week.
